Restoring Bintan’s Coast

Together with the Biology department and Forestry agency of Riau Islands, more than 300 participants planted 2,500 mangroves in the areas of Sei Carang Tj Pinang. This was an initiative to restore the damaged land due to bauxite mining activities in the past.

Enriching Lives, One Brick at a Time

After eight months of construction, the brand new learning facilities at Binh An Primary School is ready to welcome students. Sponsored by Banyan Tree Global Foundation and Laguna Lăng Cô, these classrooms will complete the suite of facilities in the school – a first since its opening 26 years ago. It is truly a “dream come true” for the headmaster, Mr. Tran Xuan Tu.

Coral Planting

Our Marine Lab in Maldives has been actively acclimatizing 600 corals for transplant in the restoration zone. To date, the team planted a test batch of corals near the jetty of the In-Ocean Villas and restoration zone. The corals are also closely monitored for future restoration efforts.

Curbing Food Wastage

Food wastage is a global issue that is increasingly concerning. To minimize wastage, Banyan Tree Bangkok regularly donates food surplus to Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Thailand to be redistributed to the underprivileged. In 2019, the hotel donated an estimated 1,867kg of food and reduced greenhouse gas emission by 192kg.

Ghost Net Bracelet Making

Unlike its name suggests, ghost nets do not have anything to do with the supernatural. Instead, they are nets or lines left in the ocean that pose a huge threat to marine life. At Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Angsana Ihuru, associates have been collecting these abandoned nets and crafting them into colorful bracelets. During craft sessions with participating guests, the sustainability team creates awareness on the importance of conservation and restoration efforts of the natural ecosystems.

Christmas Carolling

In aid of Rumah Charis — 'Home for the Children', Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur and Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur combined efforts to conduct a charity drive for the underprivileged this festive season. Adding on to last year's successful charity drive, guests are invited to join the children at Horizon Grill & Altitude this year for carolling sessions and to pen down festive wishes.

Clean Drinking

This 25th Anniversary, Banyan Tree Samui continues to uphold the brand's core value of driving sustainable development through providing clean drinking water to communities. A total of 60,000 bottles of clean drinking water were donated to Koh Samui Hospital, Surat Thani Hospital and other local hospitals.

Race for a Cause

With the goal to provide support for children with cancer, autism and disabilities, Banyan Tree Cabo Marques sponsored a 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre race event held by Runnintón last month, with associates joining in the race and doing their part for the social cause.

Full Moon Lights Out

Every full moon night from dusk till dawn, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Angsana Ihuru dedicate an evening of lights switched off. To support this initiative for energy conversation, the experience is further enhanced with special candlelit dinners for guests along the beach. The Marine Lab team assists in conducting full moon night snorkelling for guests to discover the fascinating underwater world during this magical evening.

Sustainable Dieting

In celebration of World Vegetarian Day, Banyan Tree Lijiang prepared a variety of vegetarian dishes for all associates, encouraging the adoption of a healthier and sustainable-friendly lifestyle. The consumption of meat was reduced by 30 kilograms, saving more than 30% of food costs through the implementation of plant-based diets.
